Smith-Hughes Act
In 1917 the Smith-Hughes Act established funding for vocational acgriculture in high school. -
FIrst FFA Clubs
In the 1920's Virgina was the first state to have Future Farmers clubs for boys. -
National Organization
FFA became a national organization. A network of teachers guided the establishment of FFA as a team effort to establish a club for boys with similiar farm interests. -
NFA Formed
NFA was formed (New Farmers of America) for black students in the south. -
Federal charter
FFA became one of a few organizations to recieve a federal charter from congress. -
Merged
In 1965 FFA and the NFA merged. -
Girls allowed
Girls were allowed in FFA for the first time. -
Name change
Name change from future farmers of america to nation ffa organization to reflect the growing diversity in the agriculture industry. -
Convention
national cnvention completes 7 year run in indianapolis and returns to lousiville kentucky in 2013 for 3 years.
