    Crop Rotation

    Crop Rotation
The process of crop rotation is used to provide the soil with health, better nutrients, and to keep weeds to a minimum, and gives the field recovery time.
  • 3000 BCE

    Plow

    Plow
The first plows were made around 3000 bc and there is no exact date. The first plows made of iron were produced in China approximately in 300bc. I believe that this relates to my theme because this was a major agricultural advancement because it made farming easier and environmentally it caused more land to be used by farmers because they could farm more efficiently due to the plow.
  • 3000 BCE

    Watermill

    Watermill
Approximately made around 3000BC this water mill was made to use water as its power source. The large water wheel would be built into a river and as the wheel would move it would power or move mechanisms inside to grind, roll, or hammer.
  • 2000 BCE

    Babylonian Wind Powered Machine

    Babylonian Wind Powered Machine
This machine was being worked on as part of an irrigation project. I believe that this was important to agriculture because it was a new addition and new advancement to irrigation. This also would have brought new ideas to use wind for other uses.
  • 550 BCE

    Nile Delta Canal

    Nile Delta Canal
This was finished around 550-486BC. I believe that this is an important step for agriculture because it allowed for more ships to get accrose\sed bodies of water which would make it easier for the shipping of crops and other goods and materials from across the water.
  • 481 BCE

    Breaching Strap

    Breaching Strap
Though the exact date of the discovery of the breaching strap is unknown it was made around 481-221BC. I believe this is a very important development in agriculture because when the cattle originally pulled plows if they pulled too heavy of a load they would choke themselves out and die. The invention of the Breaching strap made it easier for cattle and horses to pull heavier loads without choking themselves therefore making it easier.
  • 600

    Windmills

    Windmills
Windmills like the water mills were created to use the natural elements to power mechanisms such as wheels internally to grind up grains. Though the windmills were more for grinding grain than rolling and hammering like the watermills.

The carucca like the iron plow that originated in 300 china is a large iron plow. The difference is this plow was much larger and heavier so it dug deeper and required a team of up to 8 boxes to pull.
  • 1492

    Christopher Columbus

    Christopher Columbus
I believe that Christopher Columbus has a big part in agriculture in the U.S. I think that Christopher is important to agriculture because not only did he bring crops over but he also took crops back which would have brought different agriculture and farming opportunities for the countries.
  • Wheel

    Wheel
With this eventually, the transportation of agricultural goods would be made easier since the wheel would make it easier to walk wagons or wheelbarrow type things to walk with.
