    The Day the United States joins the Korean War
    The president at the time was Harry Truman, he agreed to send our troops to North Korea. The US and any other country that was in the United Nations had joined the war to help battle North Korea and not allow communism to spread.

    United Nations Security Council Resolution
    The council of the United Nations had recommended repel the attack and remain the peace in the area. 7 voted for, (UK, US, Norway, France, Cuba, Ecuador, and Taiwan (China)) and 3 were absent, Soviet Union, Egypt, India. This resolution had passed, but the Soviet Union being a veto-wielding power again was absent.

    China being in the United Nations joins the North Korean side and decides to fight against the enemy. They win many important victories and push South Korea and the US back over the 38th parallel.

    Shortly after North Korea and South Korea agreed to a truce to stop fighting (but still divided) the United States and China had representatives come to Geneva to discuss reuniting Korea. An agreement wasn't made, and Korea remained divided.

    Eisenhower Doctrine
    Under the Eisenhower Doctrine, a country could request American economic assistance and/or aid from U.S. military forces if it was being threatened by armed aggression from another state. Eisenhower singled out the Soviet threat in his doctrine by authorizing the commitment of U.S. forces “to secure and protect the territorial integrity and political independence of such nations, requesting such aid against overt armed aggression from any nation controlled by international communism."

    Russia had sent a missile which launched Sputnik, into space. Sputnik (Russian for traveler) was the world's first artificial satellite. The launch was a complete shock to most American's, and not in a good way. This made America realize the soviet military was capable of delivering warhead into US air-space.

    A CIA group of Cuban refugees had attempt to overthrow the government (communist) of Fidel Castro. The attack ended up failing. Their goal was to remove Castro and create a non-communist government that would match the United States. Kennedy’s administration had a long impact due to this. The administration had caused Operation Mongoose to pop up, and that was going to ruin the Cuban Government.

    John F. Kennedy was the president at the time, he had advised the military go out and take out missiles that the Soviets had planned to destroy in Cuba. Kennedy wanted complete removal of the missiles and imposed an air-sea blockade. A blockade is an effort to cut supplies of war material. The missiles were restrained from Cuba with the condition that the U.S would not invade Cuba.

    The Gulf of Tonkin was an event that took place August 2nd, 1964. It involved an American ship, the USS Maddox, was attacked by North Vietnamese torpedo boats. President Lyndon Johnson wrote the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution to approve his determination to support the United States in taking in measures to repel the enemy. At the same time it also declared peace/security in Southeast Asia.

    The Operation Rolling Thunder was an attack planned by the 2nd Air Division (7th Air Force), United States Navy, and Vietnam Air Force against the Republic of Vietnam (North). It was an important event of the Vietnam War. Actually, it was one of the most intense air ground battle during the Cold War period. The goals in the American foreign policy/military goal of victory did not succeed.

    President Nixon had visited China, being the first president to visit the People's Republic of China. This was very important, and it was important because America was stressing to improve their relations with China due to them being a Communist country during the Cold War.

    The Chilean coup d'etat was a watershed event against Salvador Allende given U.S approval. The Chilean Congress stood up against Allende. They claimed the government went against the Chilean constitution. The military had stormed his palace and Allende died.
