    In 1920, the 19th Amendment was passed in the United States, granting the right to vote to women. Females advanced in the work force as more women began to get hired for office jobs. They also gained several rights and a freer lifestyle.
  • The Marshall Plan

    The Marshall Plan
    It is also known as the European Recovery Program. It channeled over $13 billion to finance the economic recovery to Europe between 1948 and 1951.
  • Berlin Blockade

     Berlin Blockade
    Was one of the major international crisis during the Cold War.

    The Soviet Union tried to control Berlin by supplying necessities. The allies air lifted supplies in to counter their efforts.
  • Vietnam

    Vietnam
    The U.S. got involved in Vietnam to promote democracy, and to contain communism. However,the South Vietnamese were not "democrats," the North Vietnamese were not controlled from the Communist centers, and the war was mostly about nationalism and independence. By the time the U.S. removed itself from Vietnam in 1973, there were 57,000 American dead and 300,000 casualties. 1961 - 1973.

    President Nixon announced that the time for confrontation was over and that negotiation was needed. This new era was called detente. This period was characterized by summit meetings of U.S. and Soviet leaders and arms control agreements.

    The Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan in December 1979. It was the last hot war it would fight, and one whose failure played a leading role in its loss of the Cold War and disintegration. Afghanistan is infamous today for being in the grip of the most benighted, fanatical and misogynist government in the world.

    International conflict that was triggered by Iraq’s invasion of Kuwait on August 2, 1990. Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein ordered the invasion and occupation of neighboring Kuwait in early August 1990. The Persian Gulf War began with a massive U.S. led air offensive known as Operation Desert Storm. 1990-1991

    The War on Terror is a military campaign launched by the Bush administration in response to the 9/11 terrorist attacks. It brought a change in the foreign policy. Defense of the homeland and pursuing a global war on terror became the dominant goals of U.S. foreign policy. 2001-2013.
  • Invasion of Iraq

    Bush launches the invade of Iraq. The United States began military strikes on Iraq with four satellite guided 2,000 pound ‘bunker buster’ bombs being dropped along with nearly forty Tomahawk cruise missiles being launched.
