    Hundred Year's War

    The Hundred Year's War was fought between England and France. They fought, because because Charles IV died without a son to be an heir to the king. Edward III thought that he should have the crown, because his mother was Isabella of France and Charles' sister. The two countries fought for not a hundred, but more than a hundred years, 116 to be exact. They battled in France, England, Spain, and the low countries, which are now Luxembourg, Belgium, and the Netherlands. It is debatable on who won.

    Giovanni de Verrazaro
    Giovanni de Verrazaro went on a voyage in 1524. He sailed across the Atlantic Coast of North America. He convinced the King of France that he would be the right man for the voyage.

    New France

    New France was the colony of France settlers in North America. A few regions of New France were Louisiana and Quebec, with Quebec City as New France's capital. They adapted there after the French had found Quebec, thus it was named "New France". The new French settlers were most notable by their valuable fur trade facilities and industries. The French lost the land to Great Britain and the Indians during the French and Indian war.

    Jacques Cartier found the Gulf of St Lawrence in 1534. The King of France needed him to find more gold silk tea and spices.

    Jacques Cartier's third voyage

    This was the third of the three voyages that Jacques Cartier experienced in travelling to the "new world". During his past voyage he had taken the Iroquoian chief Donnacona as well as his children and some of the other natives. When they went back to France only one survived the different enviroment. When Cartier went back, he lied to the new chief Agona, stating that the natives became rich and decided to stay there. The natives were outraged when Cartier left Stadacona he relocated after.

    Samuel de Champlain's First Voyage to America

    Samuel Champlain was sent to the New World by Louis XIV because the leader wanted him to set up a fur factory. Ever since Jacques Cartier found out about fur coats, People in Europe went crazy for it and wanted more. Therefore, The king wanted a fur factory. He first set up one on an island called Saint - Croix. It had failed, since it was right out in the open of snowstorms and hurricanes. Instead, he went more inland, to set a new factory ion a place called Port - Royale.

    Samuel de Champlain Second Voyage

    Samuel wanted to come back to Quebec. In his opinion, it was the only effective place to build a fur trade port and provide a starting point to get to China. He explored Iroquois Lake, later to be known as Champlain Lake, and the Great Lakes. He successfully passed the rapids that Cartier stopped at.The first nations there helped him. It wasn't the Iroquois, but other groups like the algonquin. He sided with them against the Iroquois. This increased tensions between the french and Iroquois.

    Samuel de Champlain founds Quebec City to start one of the first and oldest European settlements in North America. The settlement is once where the Iroquois once lived. Samuel chooses to live there for the rest of his life. By the time he dies, there are about 150 people living there.

    This war started when Habsburg territories were surrounding France. The House of Habsburg ruled Spain at that time. France was a rival to them, so when their territory surrounded France, they declared war. The Habsburg can invade at any time, with the North, East and South occupied. France wanted to weaken their enemy, so they would give up control over the land around the border.

    King Louis the 14 was crowned king in 1664. He sent out people to Africa, Asia and America. He formed colonies in those places. he sent them to find gold, silk,spices, tea and to conquer land.

    Jacques Marquette's exploration

    Marquette was granted permission to leve for an expedition with Louis Jolliet. Before that, he was a missionary in New France, even though he was born in northern France. Louis Jolliet was a French-Canadian explorer. They left St. Ignace and had five people that were recognised as a Metis. They came close to the Gulf of Mexico, but turned into the Arkansas river. They went down the Mississippi to the Illinois. They also reached Lake Michigan, near modern day Chicago. He then died in Michigan.

    War of the Spanish Succession

    The War of the Spanish Succesion was when Spain's king died without a child. The French wanted Philip of Anjou a frenchman to be the king because he was the kings relative. Great Britain, the Dutch Republic along with many other states wanted to prevent this from happening because it was unfair for them in their opinion. The battle ended in a compromise with the states agreeing as Philip of Anjou could not be king of France, and Britain Spanish Majorca as well as Gibraltar.
