    The constitution was established in the Philidelphia convention in 1789. Since then the constitution has been amended 26 times.

    Louis the XVI Calls the Estates General
    Louis the XVI Calls the Estates-General. In 1789 Louis called the estate general, this was the first time they met since 1614. There were a few economic problems that France was facing at the time. Some problems include, France was at a loss of money because they helped America out in the war with Britain. This led to food shortages. The third estate was not happy. The king said each estate would have 1 vote. people were mad. The third estate declared themselves as the "national assembly."

    On the afternoon of July 14th, 1789 members of the third estate stormed a Prison, the bastille. A little over 1000 men stormed the Bastille. They stormed the Bastille in the hope to find gunpowder and weapons, they did not find such items. The third estate was worried that the king was preparing the french army to attack, hence the weapons. About 100 people were killed by storming the bastille. This was important because it caused many events that led to the king being overthrown.

    The Declaration of the Rights of Men was a paper listing the natural rights of men. These rights include freedom of religion, freedom of speech, freedom of assembly and separation of powers.     The king and queen were both publicly executed. Both the king and the queen were executed via guillotine, they were accused of committing treason. The king was executed first, followed by his wife just 9 months later. The reign of terror was when Maximilien Robespierre wanted to seize everyone against the revolution. The group of men that helped called themselves "public safety"

    The directory was a committee that consisted of 5 people who governed France. The committee was later overthrown by napoleon in the Coup of 18 Brumaire, they were replaced by the Consulate.

Napoleon caused a lot of trouble, he started a war with the Prussians, which the french easily won. Napoleon also removed the holy empire, this made the Prussians mad.

    On June 24, 1812, Napoleon was led across the Neman River, invading Russia from present-day Poland. This invasion did not end up how anyone planned. It was a disaster for France. The Russians led Napoleons army to Moscow without anything to eat or drink. This resulted in many deaths

    The waterloo campaign was fought between the french, the British, and the Prussians. The French (Napoleon) was defeated. The battle of Waterloo ended Napoleon's military career.
