    Treaty of New York
    The Treaty of New York was signed by Creek Indians and the United States. Lands were given up between Oconee and Ogeechee Rivers in Georgia and it was done under President George Washington and Henry Knox - Secretary of War.   • Yazoo Land Fraud

    Yazoo Land Fraud
    Four land companies bribed Georgia legislators into selling 35 million acres of land for 2 cents an acre. They turned around and sold the land to other people for a profit. Georgia had to give up all of its land claims, west of the current border, to the U.S. government. Georgia Enyclopedia

    Andrew Jackson defeated some Creek Indians at Horseshoe Bend and that made the Indians sign the Treaty of Fort Jackson and give up more land. The Creek Indians had to give over a big piece of land to Georgia. Georgia Info

    Creek Indians that were led by William McIntosh signed the treaty and gave up the rest of the Creek lands. Some Indians killed McIntosh because of it. Even though they forgave McIntosh for signing, they still lost all their land that is now Georgia. Georgia Info

    Andrew Jackson signed the Indian Removal Act. It said all Indians were to be gotten rid of west of the Mississippi. Georgia had less and less Indians. This made the land lotteries easier. Georgia Info

    Worcester v. Georgia
    The Supreme Court said that the United States had control over the Cherokee Nation. Georgia no longer had control, but they didn't hold up the ruling and kept making the Cherokees leave. Georgia Info
  • Trail of Tears

    Trail of Tears
    The Treaty of New Echota led to the Trail of Tears. Georgia military made the Cherokee leave and head to Oklahoma. That is over 2,200 miles! Twenty-two families that were Cherokee/white mixed didn't have to leave. Droughts, hunger, disease, and cold meant many of the Cherokee died and the Georgia military were to blame. Georgia Info
