    The voting requirements in the early American Colonies were to be an Adult Male that owned property and to be an active member of the church. This meant you had to attend church every week not just sometimes.
  • The Pilgrims

    The Pilgrims
    The Pilgrims came to America for religious freedom. They came to America on the Mayflower and settled in Plymouth Massachusetts. They were also tolerant of other religions and were the people who basically started Thanksgiving.
  • The Puritans

    The Puritans
    The Puritans came to America for religious freedom and settled in Massachusetts Bay. They were not tolerant whatsoever of other religions and beliefs.
  • Catholics

    The Catholics came to America because they were being persecuted because of their religious beliefs. They settled in Maryland and were VERY tolerant of other peoples beliefs.

    If you didn't believe what the Puritans did then you would be banished. there were two famous people who were banned from Massachusetts. they were Anne Hutchinson and Roger Williams. Anne Hutchinson was banished because she questioned what the bible said.

    Roger Williams was banished from Massachusetts Bay because he wanted to separate the Church and State. Roger Williams also went on to found Rhode Island.

    The Quakers formed Pennsylvania for themselves and any others who wished to live there. They also believed in complete equality for everyone no matter race, gender, age, or ethnicity.

    This was when the separation of church and state was made a law in all colonies.
