  • The kaiser abdicate

    Germany's rulers (the kaiser family) abdicate after before losing the first world war.
  • The end of World War One

    The first world war ended in Germany surrendering to France, Britain and America.
  • Chancellor Ebert

    Ebert becomes chancellor but dies in 1925
  • Treaty of Versailles

    This was created to make sure Germany was put for blame for starting the first world war and had to be punished for doing so.
  • The League of Nations

    It was set up through the Treaty of Versailes and was used as a way to prevent future wars. France, Britain and America were the ones who created it yet America did not join the League
  • Kappa Putsch

    The Friekorps, a right ring party, tried to over throw the Weimar Republic using a Putsch that failed.
  • Vilna disputes

    Vilna was made capital of Lithuania but its population was mainly Polish. Poland took control of Lithuania whist the league did not do anything to stop Poland.
  • Upper Silesia Disputes

    Both Germany and Poland wanted Upper Silesia, the border between them, so got the League of Nations to help decide. The League came up with a voting system which resulted in Poland keeping Upper Silesia and Germany accepted the decision.

    Hitler organised a putsch to overthrow the Weimar Republic. It was almost successful but failed, keeping the Weimar in power
  • Chancellor Stresemann

    Stresemann becomes Chancellor but only stays in charge for 102 days
  • Corfu

    Tellini, an Italian leader, was sent in to sort out the disputes between Greece and Albania. Whilst in Greece, he and his team were killed. Italy demanded money from Greece but that money was given to the league and would be handed to Italy after the murderers were found. After this Italy ploted against the league.
  • The Dawes Plan

    Germany were unstable and could not pay reparations, France then decided to take over the Ruhr till Germany paid. Because of this, Germany took out a loan with America to make sure that Germany could pay large reparations without bankrupting.
  • The Geneva protocol

    The Corfu incident showed that the league of nations were seriously weak when challenged by another country, so Britain and France drew up the Geneva Protocol to strengthen the league. It meant that members of the league would have to settle disputes through the league.
  • Wall Street Crash

    The American stock markets crash and America call in all their loans. This sends the world into the depression
  • Manchurian Crisis

    Japan invaded manchuria following the mukden incident and ignored the League's warning to get out.
  • Chancellor Hitler

    Hitler becomes Chancellor of Germany
  • Japan leave the League

  • Reichstag fire

    Hitler puts the blame of the fire on the Communist party and bans them from being a party people can vote for.
  • Night of the long knives

    Hitler ordered the SS to murder 400 SA officers in one night
  • Hindenburg dies

    Hitler becomes president and fires con Papen and vice chancellor so he is the only one left in power
  • Italy invades Abyssinia

    Abyssinia gets almost defeated but they ask Britain and France to help. In an attempt to try and keep Italy, a very powerful country, happy they give 2/3 of Abyssinia to them
  • Italy leaves the League

    Italy then decides to make an alliance with Germany. The axis is formed, containing Germany, Italy and Japan
  • Germany invades Poland

    Britain threatens to declare war on Germany off they don't leave Poland. Germany ignores this.
  • World War Two starts
