Today we are supposed to leave home for California. Father says we are going to find gold. If we find some, we would be rich! -

We have been driving for little oevr a week. Father says we are still a long ways away. One of our wheels broke and we had to stop for two days. I am starting to get sore from sleeping on the wagon. -

Father shot a deer! We had the most meat we have had in weeks. Mother made a stew from the rest to keep for later. We are still a long way away. -

We were crossing a river toay when when of our ox lost footing and was swept away in the current. We were lucky the wagon stayed intact. Father says the time Has now doubled or tripled. -

We found a family with one ox like us! They decided to use one cart and share ox. We are now only 30 miles away! -
Log #6
We have been in California for a few weeks now. We have not found any gold yet. Mther says it will be soon or else we are going back. I want to stay. I like it here.
