James VI of Scotland becomes James I of England after queen elizebeths death in 1603. He is her ony heir. -
Charles the first
Charles is the james first son and he inherited the throne after his fathers death in 1625. He became an absolute monarch just like his father. -

In 1628 Charles I needed to raise taxes. He summoned Parliament and they suggested he sign the "Petition of Right". This made it so that the king could not raise taces without Parliament's consent. -
Dissolvement of parliament.
Charles signed the petition of Rights but then got rid of parliament. He ruled the nation for 11 years on his own. While ruling on his own, he made spiteful enemies. -
Scotland revolt against king charles
Charles and Laud tried to impose the Anglican prayer book on Scotland. Charles made another parliment to support funds to fight the scotlands. -

Charles led an army to the house of commons to arrest it most powerful leader. They failed and they escaped and they raised an army to fight charles army. -
Cromwells capture the king
In 1647 the cromewells captured the king of the cavaliers which were people that were wealthy. -

When king charles was sent to trial he was condemned as a tyrant and e=sent to death. In january 1649 his people surrounded him and wanted him executed. he was not afraid and was executed. -
Parliment passes a law
The parliment passes a law exiling most catholics to barren land in the west of Ireland. Any Catholic found disobeying would be killed. -
Cromwell becomes a dictator
As the challenges to order grew, Cromwell took the title Lord Protector. From then on, he ruled as a virtual dictator through the army of the king. -
The Commonwealth Ends
Oliver Cromwell died in 1658. Many people became tired of military rule and strict puritan ways. -
New Parliament
In 1660, the newly elected Parliament summoned Charles II to rerturn to England after being baned. -
James the 2 becomes king
James II was the second surviving son of Charles I and younger brother of Charles II. He was created Duke of York, and was in Oxford during the Civil War. -
Forced from the throne
In 1688 James II was forcefully removed from the throne because he was catholic. Parliament then asked his protestant daughter if she would take the throne along with her husband, William of Orange. -
The english bill of rights.
It ensured the superiority of parliment over the monarch. It also secured that any roman catholic would not be king.
