  • Convening the Estates General

    -Louis XVI called for the Eststes General to meet.
    -It was called because Louis XVI wanted to tax the nobles.
    -It was the first meeting in 175 years.
  • Tennis Court Oath

    -The first act of Revolution.
    -People in the Third Estate refused to leave the tennis court untill a new Constitution was signed.
  • Storming of the Bastille

    -The people of Paris stormed into Bastille (the prison) after rumors reached the city because they wanted arms to defend themselves.
    -The people killed guards and went around the city with their heads on pikes
  • Great Fear

    -The peasants heard a rumor that the nobles were paying men to terrorize them.
  • Declaration of the Rights of Man

    -Stated that men are born and remain free and equal in rights.
    -Guaranteed freedom of speech, equal justice, and freedom of religion for men only.
