    The End of The Revolutionary War
    When the revolutionary war ended, the United States formed a national government. Many citizens began to participate in movements. One of the top three movements was formed around public education. This event got the public involved in investing in public education.
  • Infant Schools

    Infant Schools
    In 1816 infant schools came to America, this was for children ages four through seven. The teachers were all women and resembled a nursery. The purpose was to help engage and prepare the kids. This was the first time that schools worked to understand and meet the learner's needs. They also discovered new teaching methods, later in 1850 infant schools turned into kindergarten. This event is what created the kindergartens seen today, and started the concept that students learn differently.

    The Child Study Movement
    The child study movement looked into children's minds and personalities. After G. Stanley Hall did an experimental study he was able to give a scientific approach to understanding children. This movement became a huge part of the educational philosophy.
  • The Compulsory Education Attendance Laws

    The Compulsory Education Attendance Laws
    The compulsory education attendance laws were passed in all states between 1842 and 1918. This law shows how it was in America's best interest in educating the lower classes. This law is still seen in today's public education.
  • Brown v. Board of Education

    Brown v. Board of Education
    Brown v. Board ruled that "separate but equal" was "inherently unequal" (Kaplan p. 151). This founded public education to be unsegregated, which is in all education today. This event helped equalize public education forever.
