Historical Timeline

  • Infant Schools

    Infant Schools
It is important to note the development of infant schools as it was just the beginning of what is set in place today. They were set up to get children introduced to learning and out of the factories. Today educators have taken it further and set up pre-k programs, students are never too young to start learning.
  • Child Study Movement

    Child Study Movement
Making the child a priority was a first in education. This movement can be seen throughout education today, adjusting curriculum to fit the needs of the child so they can get the most out of their education and find meaning in their work.
  • Committee of Fifteen

    Committee of Fifteen
While it would be met with criticism it was important to establish elementary education standards. In the past children’s education differed depending on where they lived and their status was. Educators need a baseline of what should be taught so not one group of students is lacking in their learning.
  • Brown v. Board of Education

    Brown v. Board of Education
Just because their skin color was different students were sent to poor schools creating a gap in knowledge between races. This law goes to the present, allowing students of all colors to attend the schools in their areas rather than having to travel across town to a school that allows them. This unites the country and its people.
  • IDEA

    IDEA
With more than 8 million children having a learning disability this opens doors for those students. IDEA allows everyone the opportunity to learn and expand their futures no matter the severity of their learning disability and allows them to participate in school where once they weren’t given the chance.
