    Massachusetts State Board of Education
    Horace Mann convinced the American people that education should be unified state school system. The schools the need an over seeing agency to maintain educational standards. This made a difference in schooling because it held teachers and schools to proper standards.
  • Plessy vs. Ferguson

    Plessy vs. Ferguson
    Plessy vs. Ferguson is a supreme court case in Louisiana, this case is famous for the "separate but equal" accommodations for African American and White children in schools and society. This is important because it was originally suppose to represent separate but equal in schools and public. It was one of the first steps to try and make education and public affairs equal yet still separating by color. This had also lead into the Brown vs. Board of education.
  • Brown vs. Board

    Brown vs. Board
    This was a supreme court case that justices ruled unanimously that racial segregation of children in public was unfair. This is when it became known that ""Separate but equal" was "it was inherently unequal"" (Kaplan, pg.151). This made a difference in education because the court had intended to stop segregation by race within the schools, ,making education the law of the land.

    Public law 94-142 and beyond
    "Children with disabilities as those who are intellectually challenged, hard of hearing, deaf, speech and language impaired, visually handicapped, seriously emotionally disturbed(Kaplan, pg.159) as well as children with other disabilities. This allowed children with special needs to receive the same educational opportunity as every child,Being first of many steps towards inclusion of all children of special needs, and offering additional services and programs.
  • No Child Left Behind Act

    No Child Left Behind Act
    Tied distribution of federal money to public school accountability for raising student's academic achievement. It was a law seeking equity and excellence by the federal government as the first attempt to hold state, district and schools accountable. As a solution for the unequal achievement among different student populations. It affected students to ensure they learned it required to guaranteed teachers were highly qualified individuals
