    Epic of Gilgamesh

    It's a story about the King of Uruk or Gilgamesh. It's an epic and one of the earliest greatest works of literature. It was written in Ur, Mesopatamia. It shows that reading was entertainment and relates to people today. It also features a great flood similar to in the Bible.

    Xia Dynasty

    It was the first imperial Chinese Dynasty, with the leader being Yu the Great. It was located in Eastern Central China.

    Hammurabi's Code

    This code was a set of about 282 laws written and available to the public population. It's laws were different for different classes of people, but it is known for its very equal punishment-an eye for an eye. Hammurabi, the king of Babylon wrote the laws.

    Shang Dynasty

    The second Dynasty of China was the Shang Dynasty( monarchy) know for some of its inventions. It's known for its wood structures, use of bronze, and oracle bonds. The founder was Tang, and it is located along the yellow river.

    Mandate of Heaven

    The Mandate of Heaven was guideline that poerfulmfamilies could claim the Mandate of Heaven or the gods want them to rule. Usually a natural disaster signaled the end of the dynastic cycle and led to a new emperor coming into power. The Zhou Dynasty started this Mandate.

    Zhou Dynasty

    The Zhou dynasty had two sides. Western 1046-770 and Eastern 770-221. The Zhou Dynasty developed the Mandate of Heaven. The western Zhou had relative peace due to its use of feudalism with a central government. The Zhou were innovators in infrastructure- roads/canals, coining money, and weaponry- iron weapons. The duke of Xhou was one of the leaders.

    Lao Tzu

    Lao Tzu was an Eastern Philosopher and founder of Taoism. He lived in Eastern China. He studied Metaphysics or the study of existence. Taught honesty and simplicity through balence and harmony.-Yin Yang no strict ruler to Taoism just ideas of self acceptance, truth, and finding inner peace.

    Confucius

    Confuscious was a Chinese Philosopher in north Easter China. Taught Confucianism to his followers which depended on hard work= success/happiness, importance of a family unit, and the respect of elders-filial piety. His teachings/morals became the pillars for Chinese government.

    Buddhism Begins

    Buddhism Begins
    Siddartha Gautana, a former prince, left his palace and witnessed suffering first hand( old person, sick person, dead person, and monks meditating). He was determined to free himself and others from the eternal cycle of suffering by reaching Nirvanna or enlightenment. Buddhism preaches living the middle way( a life that's not too extreme). It was founded in Northern India and revolves around finding inner peace through the eight fold path( refer to picture).

    Socrates

    Born in 470 BCE, Socrates was a Greek Philosopher. He believed in questioning as a way to reach answers. He did not write his teachings down, but his student Plato wrote them down in dialogues. He Understood he knew nothing. He questioned Athenian leaders, and taught his students to find universal truth and question authority. He was put to death for corrupting the youth in 399BCE

    Plato was Greek philosopher. He wrote down his teacher, Socrates, work. He was Aristotles teacher. He founded a school in Athens called "The Academy." He set the bases for Western Philosophy, science, and justice. He wrote 36 books and had 4 main rules designed to make someone a better person-

    Aristotle

    Aristotle was an Athenian Philosopher and student of Plato at " The Academy." He founded the Lyceum which was his school.He relied on logic and rationality. He stressed the importance of the golden mean which was similar to the middle way of Eastern Philosophy. He was also the private tutor of Alexander the Great.

    Qin Dynasty/ Shi Huang Di

    The Qin Dynasty was founded by Shi Huang Di. It was the Dynasty to unify China's 7 states during the warring states period. The Qin Dynasty had a massive army. The Dynasty had 36 districts led by local officials. During this time, the Great Wall of China was built. Believed in Utiliity and practicality died taking mercury pills for immortality. He also codified the laws.
