The Australian Balloons
The Australian Balloons were just hot air balloons that would drop bombs upon enemy forces.These were scraped as some would be blown back by the wind and would sometimes drop bombs upon enemy forces. -
The First Unmanned Aircraft
The first unmanned combat aerial vehicle (UCAV) was nicknamed the flying bomb and was sent on its first test run. It was an idea to be used as some sort of aerial torpedo, launching itself into the enemy. This then resulted in the Kettering Bug which first launched in 1918 and was which was an experimental un-manned drone which was finished too late to be deployed in the first world war. -
The Larynx
In 1927 the navy started to convert Standard E-1 Planes into cruise missles. These would be fired from ships and auto-piloted into enemy ships. The early sucsess of The Larynx led to the building of The Fairey III, which then in turn led to the Building of The Queen Bee -
Aerial Torpedoes 'Curtis'
The Curtis torpedo was an aircraft controlled by someone flying in another aircraft and was used to fly into enemy planes and ships. -
Nuclear Testing Drones
Using a small aircraft, they would send drones over nuclear hotspots to check for dangerous levels of radioactivity, if there were low levels they knew it would be safe to send in troops. This was never used but was kept incase it was needed -
UAV
Unmanned Aerial Vehicle. These are used to find enemy positions on the battlefield they were designed in the 1980's and were soon thought to be expensive and useless and the design was quickly abandened because of this -
UAV's for Scientific Use
Drones are primarily used for enemy surveillance and firing missles upon said enemies, but 4 years ago there was an idea put forward to use them as inter-atmosphere satellites to research and even be used for communications -
Solar Powered Drones
This was quite a breakthrough because drones are primarily used in the air so then if they were powered by the sun, They would be able to stay in the air for longer periods of time. -
3D Printed Drones
These 3D printed drones are quite terrifying as this shows how easy they can be aquired, yes 3D printes cost quite a large amount of money but they are still quite too obtainable for my liking. These drones are currently being used in the Ukraine and Russia Dispute -
The 'Amber' Drones
Currently being developed even further these drones are made to be used for long distances and for when there will be a lot of recon work being done as they are able to stay in the sky for long periods of time.
