  • First film trailer

    The first trailer that was shown was for a musical for The Pleasure Seekers musical.
  • Motion picture trailer

    The first official studio releases of trailers were in 1916. The film starred Charlie Chaplin.

  • National Screen Service

    The National Screen Service was founded and provided a service to the studios creating trailers. They dominated trailer making for four decades until the late 1950's. Some film trailers that were created by the NSS were, 'I am a Fugitive from a Chain gang' (1932) and Casablanca (1942)
  • 1930 and 1940's horror comedy

    In the 1930's and 1940's, films that were classed as horror comedy had monsters that were not violent.
  • Laurel and hardy

    In 1930 Laurel and Hardy produced a film called The Laurel-Hardy Murder Case. Laurel and Hardy also did the A Live Ghost film in 1934. Then went on make A-Haunting We Will Go in 1942.

    FRom the late 1950's to the early 1960's film trailers started to break down. One director that changed the way trailers were made was Stanley Kubrick, the original mould became textless, montage trailers with fast paced editing. This happened because of 'New Hollywod'.

    The mass market wasnt what trailers wanted to hit anymore, they tried to make the mass market feel like they were in on some sort of secret by making each individual feel like they were included and nobody else knew what was going on.

    Now-a-days modern trailers use the same techniques that trailers used in the past. The technique has been effective forso many years film directors have chosen to use the roots from original movie trailers, and there's no indication of this chnging in the years to come.

    Shaun of the dead, and Zombieland both use zombies with comedy to create a horror comedy film. They are both successful films in todays life.
