    ARPANET stands for Advanced Research Projects Agency Network. It was the early successor of the internet created by DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Projects Administration).

    Ray Tomlinson created the email. He worked for BBN corporation. They created the basics of sending and reading messages over the ARPANET.
  • First Trans-Atlantic Connection

    First Trans-Atlantic Connection
    Arpanet made its first trans-atlantic with the University College of London. In the same year, 75% of ARPANET'S network was used for email activity.
  • TCP/IP protocol created.

    TCP/IP protocol created.
    When people figured out ARPANET could only connect to a couple dozen computers, they realized they needed a new protocol, creating TCP/IP, This is the protocol most of us use today.

    The idea of internet explorer was created by Thomas Reardon who worked for Spyglass. Internet Explorer is a popular browser now.

    Internet is constantly growing as time goes on. There is approximately 4.44 billion pages currently and the numbers are growing. Internet has become the number one way to communicate with others and the future of the internet is seen to be very successful. Thanks DARPA, you changed our world.
