  • The Principles of Scientific Management Hits the Market

    Fredrick Taylor publishes a book that is a secret breakthrough in management techniques and methods. The print version is still available today (Behind the Marker).
  • Ford Introduces Assembly Line

    Ford Introduces Assembly Line
    In 1913, Henry Ford institutes the assembly line to his production process. Making a car in two and a half hours instead of twelve hours. This revolutionized the car industry. Cars could now be put together faster and for cheaper (Fords' Assembly Line Starts Rolling).
  • Henri Foyal Publishes Principles of Management

    Henri Foyal was the Cheif Executive Officer for Comambault Mining Company. He developed the Principle of Management Theory. The basis of the theory is to have a more productive work place. So that processes can be accomplished faster and efficiently (Foyals Principles of Management).
  • Hawthowrne Studies

    Hawthorne Studies were a break through in the business world. Experiments took place from 1924-1932. A few valuable pieces of information came out of the study. For example the study showed that if the manager was a good person the employees performances were higher verses thouse who had not personable managers (Jones 52).
  • Ford Introduces Fourty Hour Work Weeks

    Ford Introduces Fourty Hour Work Weeks
    Ford Motor Company was the first corporation to have Americans work a five day, fourty hour work week. Production rose and worker stats improved significantly. Ford figured out that happy and healthy employees meant higher productivity (Ford Factory Workers Get Fourty Hour Work Week).
  • Bureaucratic Management Theory

    Scientific Management Theory was combined with the Bureaucratic theory. Max Weber was clearly an innovator to help make the work place a better more efficient environment. Weber helped string together an easy and similar process to improve efficiency in the work place to become more of a routine (Historical and Contemporary Theory of Mangement).

    Development of the Contingency Theory in the 1960's helped the organizational structures of many businesses. It was all about gaining access to resources easily. Obtaining resource information at a certian level of funtion is very good for the production at that level (jones 57).

    Trader Joe's Market founder Joe Coulumbe, introduced work place casual at his stores; mandating Hawaiian shirts to be worn by his employees. Also he had them perform excellent customer service, which made the company more unique then the close competition (Our Story).

    Benjamin Shindler founded the attraction-selection-attrition model. This was a break through in management. Finding employees that had the same or similar personalities is good to have. You can be on the same page more offen then not (Jones 85).

    Osha, Occupational Saftey and Health Administration was established into the work place. Their cause was to reduce and avoid the amount of injury on an industrial and commercial scale. Standards for every work place. Osha helped improve our work sites and even preform tasks safely and efficiently (Timeline of Osha's 40 Year History).

    Starting out in Somerville, Massachusetts; Gengle Giant Moving Company found a good managerial technique. If you start out as an employee, you can risk up to a manager position. The company found that telling the truth iss the best policy (Jones 75)

    In 1984 Dell figured out how to mass produce personel computers. The company made the laptop more affordable as they found out how to manufacter the personal computers as cheap and as fast as they could. The low-cost strategy was created (Jones 9).

    American Express Chief Exectutive Officer Uses Open Door Policy
    American Express credit card company Chief Exectutive Officer Ken Chenault, figured out that if he has an open door policy that his managers under him did not need to feel pressure to go talk to him about and conflict or any ideas to get the company to run more effiecently (Jones 11).

    Apple Chief Executive Officer Steve Jobs introduces iTunes and iPods in 2003. By cornering the market in 2006, 70% of the digital music player market and 80% of online music downloading business (Jones 4).

    In 2007 Apple Chief Executive Officer Steve Jobs introduces the iPhone. That helped Apple in consumers wanting a cell phone and an iPod in one convienient hand held device. iPhones could download MP3 format to be played on an iPod (Jones 4).

    Boeing struggled to keep up with demand deadlines and they had to announce delays on their product. Later in 2009 they had more problems that had surfaced resulting in structural defects and getting away from building quality airliners. THe result was Boeing lost a hundred orders because they could not keep up with demand and lost business to compeditors (Jones 21).

    Dell computer company found that they could cut costs if they moved their customer service representitives, marketing and management to India and other countries aborad. Outsourcing is a good idea to cut costs and make more money available to put toward new product developmnet (Jones 19).

    Apple releases iPad computer tablet. This brought the industry to a whole new level. Leading to the technology of better Apple products and probably the better development of Andriod and Windows products. Leading Apple to a record high stock price in 2010. They pioneered these new waves of how we do things (Jones 4).

    Apple Chief Exectutive Officer Tim Cook releases the third version of the iPad. Making Apple's sales jumping a ridiculous amount (Jones 3). Showing that Apple is still a very innovative company.
