    This is the date, Martin Cooper, a senior engineer at Motorola and inventor of the mobile phone, made the first ever phone call on his mobile phone prototype. The communication device weighed 1.1kg and had to charge 10 hours to be able to speak on it for 30 minutes (Goodwin, 2015).

    The release of Martin Cooper's invention to the world. A further 10 years after Cooper's prototype, $100 million had been thrown into the development of the cell phone. When it first hit the market it was retailing at $3,995 (BeBusinessed, 2016). At such a high price, writer, Richard Goodwin, described the device being targeted at, "...the likes of Gordon Gecko in mind, businessmen-types that drove big Jags and flew Concord," (Goodwin, 2015).
  • IBM Simon - First Smart Phone

    IBM Simon - First Smart Phone
    While the topic can be somewhat controversial, it is said that the IBM Simon was the world's first smart phone, which included an LCD display, a stylus for touch input and 1.8MB memory car support. You could not only make phone calls but you could add contacts, create task lists and check mail, as well as using third party apps (Grush, 2012). This device also sold for a lot cheaper than the DynaTAC, selling at $1099 (BeBusinessed, 2016).
  • Nokia 6110

    This was the beginning of the Nokia era. Designed to be able to withstand a strong impact it also incorporated improvements reduced size and longer talk-time. Including menu icons on the screen, it was the first phone that made text messaging a standard in many countries (Stella Doradus, 2013).
  • BlackBerry 850

    When RIM released the first BlackBerry it was around the time when "email" was the new trend. So in reaction to this, they created a device that's purpose was solely for email and text messaging, almost like an organiser, with a scroll wheel and a full keyboard to type away (Ziegler, 2009).

    The biggest and most significant thing about this Japanese phone was that it was the first phone with a camera. However it was only sold in Japan whilst most countries had to wait for later years (Ha, 2010).

    One of the most advanced phone's of it's time with not only MP3 capabilities but was more compact, longer battery life and more memory. This mobile was the beginning of the mobile phones we know today (Turner, 2015).

    Whilst there were many phones in between 2001 and 2007, the Apple iPhone was the beginning of a revolution in mobile phones, in this day now better known as smartphones. By making the phone a touch screen, it was already ahead of most. In addition it had the seamless multitasking of going from app to app and was able to sync with iTunes (Ritchie, 2015).
