This law has shaped our schools today because nowadays there are students from different countries who choose to go to school in the US even though English may not be their first language.

    On April 4, 1968 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated in Memphis, Tennessee, sadly, in the comfort of his own home atop his balcony. Dr. King was an activist who fought for African-American civil rights, and made one of the biggest changes in our world. Dr. King's influence on the world is celebrated as a holiday on January 16, and it opens the eyes of children to an inspiring role model.

    The Immigration Act was signed by Lyndon Johnson in 1965 ruling out the National Origins Formula. The Immigration Act was made effective on June 30, 1968 and it enabled more Asians and Latin American families to enter the US resulting in more students, and diverse classrooms.

    In 1992 the first ever Smart Board was invented by SMART Technologies. The smart board is an interactive white board that acts as a projector/whiteboard and allows the teacher to use touch detection for better instruction. The board enhances education by making it easier for teachers to teach.

    In 1994, CompuHigh Whitmorte was founded as the very first accredited online high school. The founding of this online school provided an option for high school education to children who are willing, but cannot physically go to school everyday.

    Proposition 227
    Proposition 227 was passed in California requiring all public school instruction to be in English. Although it may sound like a bad thing, this change results in better education for our students.

    The Great Recession was a period of economic downfall in the United States during the early 2000s and late 2010s. This was one of the largest downfalls since the Great Depression because of the amount of people who were losing their jobs. During this time many teachers lost jobs, which in turn lowered the quality of education in the United States.
  • Karl Pierson and Arapohoe High School

    Karl Pierson and Arapohoe High School
    In 2013 another school shooting tragedy occurred at Arapohoe High School. Karl Pierson, the felon behind the shooting, was armed with a shotgun, machete, and molotov cocktails. He intended on getting revenge on the school librarian, but instead critically wounded a female classmate before taking his own life. This girl then died 8 days later.
