Aristotle suggested that the heart is the mechanism of mental processes

I picked this because it corraleted with "the brain being the central part behind mental processes." This is important to the field of psychology because at this time they thought the heart was the center of it all. That it was essentially the core of everything that we do.They didn't exactly know there was a brain, and if they did they didn't think it had anything to do with the way we thought. This is such a big finding due to the fact it challenged them, Changed the way psychology was studied
  • Phineas Gage story

He suffered brain damage when an iron pole went through his brain. His personality changed but his intellect had stayed the same. Suggesting that the brain plays a role in personality. I chose this because I thought it was interesting. It changed the field of pyschology because it gave them a little more info on how the brain worked. This opened a new door into the study of the brain and how complex it really is.
  • Paul Broca Discovery

Discovered an area in the left frontal lobe that plays a key role in language development. I chose this because it gave into a little on how we develop. This too opened doors in psychology. So to speak it shows that our brain absorbs everything it learns from early on in life. I believe this was a key into human development and how some develop differently than others and why that may be. It opens doors to different studies they could conduct to discover even more on a broader spectrum.
  • G. Stanley Hall

Received the first American Ph.D. in the field of psychology. Later founded the American Psychological Association. I chose this because I thought it was an interesting fact. This changed the field because he was the very first registered psychologist. By him creating this Association it allowed all the future psychologist like himself to be able to work together so to speak and be on page when they made amazing discoveries. It has helped psychology to continue to strive in the modern world.
  • Electroschock therapy was first used on a human patient

I chose this because I know that electorshock therapy isn't used anymore. I think this played a big role in psychology just simply for the fact that they were discovering how to potentially treat people with certain conditions and how to not treat them. For instance, with this shock therapy they found out that it isn't as useful as they thought and got rid of it. which could lead them to finding something else that they could use to help instead.
  • Karen Horney

She published her feministic views of psychoanalytic theory, which marked the beginning of feminism. I chose this because feminism is a big thing going on in our world at this time. Pyschology ranges more than just different disabilities, but it also relates to the point of view from different people. Precisely, this is exactly what feminism is. Her views influenced a lot of people and started feminism.
  • Chlorpromazine (Thorazine) first used in the treatment of schizophrenia

  • Moving up in Guam

Psychologists in Guam gain prescription privelges for psychotropic medication. I chose this because it shows how psychology was spreading. A lot of these type of underdeveloped countries might fall short on the pyschology bandwagon. All over there are people that suffer from different type of mental illnesses. For them being able to use medication to treat those that need it, helped them not only discover more in psychology but keep people taken care of as well.
  • Attention from the White House

People pushing for mentalhealth parity got the attention of the WhiteHouse when President GeorgeW.Bush promoted a legislation that would guarantee comprehensive mental health cover for those with mental illnesses.I chose this because I thought it was interesting that they got the attention of the white house. With people not necessarily havingto worry about health care, this could give psychologists opportunities to advance in medicine.Be able to see what works best for certain types of conditions
  • Plato suggested that the brain is the mechanism of mental processes

I picked it because the brain is a big part in the study of psychology. It is significant to the field of psychology because at that ear in the world they were just discovering things out. Whether that be with the world itself of the human body. A lot of what they found out influenced the way we do things in the modern world. The brain is a very complex organ, so this discovery led to a lot more that happened in the future.
