  • First Black and White contact

    A number of Strabroke Island people assisted Mathew Flinders' crew, when they arrived near Cylinder Beach on their way to Sydney.This was said to possibly be the first black and white contact on Stradbroke.
  • Pamphlett, Finnegan and Parsons

    Pamphlett, Finnegan and Parsons
    After becoming shipwreked on Morton Bay, timbergetters Pamphlett, Finnegan and Parsons spent the following 8 months exloring the bay. They were looked after for 6 weeks by the Noonucals who lived at Amity point (then called Pulan). The experieced many spiritual ceremonies, were fed and housed, and were also taught and advised on how to make canoes.
  • Renaming of Minjerribah

    In honour of son of the Earl of the island, Captain JH Rous ( commander of HMS Rainbow, the first ship of war to
    enter Moreton Bay), Mijerribah was renamed Stradbroke Island by Governer Darling. Dunwich, formerly known as Green Point, was chosen by Commandant Patrick Logan as a possible site for the Morton Bay settlement, and in November, he was ordered to establish one.
  • Cotton Plantation

    Abandoned not long after it was established, a cotton plantation was put in place at Moongalba (Myora).
  • An Estimated 10 violent clashes between Stradbroke Island Aborigines and Europians at Dunwich and Amity (Jan 1831 - Dec 1832)
