Belisarius was a general of the Byzantine Empire. As one of the last important figures in the Roman military tradition, he led armies against Persia, the Vandal kingdom of North Africa, and the barbarian tribes encroaching upon Constantinople. Later he was accused of being involved in a plot against Justinian’s life and, even though he was probably innocent. After that he was left in peace.
