History of the Internet

  • 1965

    An M.I.T scientist developed a way of sending information from one computer to another that he called “packet switching.” Without packet switching, the government’s computer network—now known as the ARPAnet—would have been just as vulnerable to the enemy attacks.
  • 1969

    ARPAnet delivered its first message: a “node-to-node” communication from one computer to another. The message—“LOGIN”
  • 1970

    A computer scientist , Vinton Cerf developed a way for all computers across the world to communicate.He invented the Transmission Control Protocol (TCP).
  • 1991

    A computer programmer from Switzerland ,Tim Berners Lee introduced the Worldwide-web. This allowed the Internet to be a "web" of information anyone on the internet can retrieve.
  • 1992

    A group of students and researcher at University of Illinois developed a sophisticated browser that they called Mosaic,now know as Netscape.It offered a user-friendly way to browse the internet.
  • 1995

    NSFNET modified its acceptable use of policy for commercial use. Individuals could use the internet to make a profit ,example: e commerce, blogging etc.
  • 1999

    Wireless technology was established ,example :Bluetooth.
