  • First Parade

    First Parade
    The first parade was known as the Macy's Christmas Parade. It included floats pulled by horses , camels, donkey, elephants and goats from central park zoo and of course Santa Claus.
  • Balloons

    In 1927, the zoo animals were replaced by the gigantic balloons. The first balloons included cartoon characters like Felix the Cat.
  • Miracle on 34th Street

    The 1947 film "Miracle on 34th Street" used footage from the actual 1946 Macy's Day Parade
  • Floats

    Floats became spectacular in 1969 The reason for this is a person called Manfred Bass started to create the floats and he made them longer and higher.
  • Cat in the Hat crashes into a lamp post

    Cat in the Hat crashes into a lamp post
    In 1997, Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani appointed a 12-member task force to review an incident where a Cat in the Hat balloon crashed into a lamp post.
