    In the 1932 election, the whig party nominated Henry Clay to run against Andrew Jackson. Jackson, being the popular vote, beat Clay in a landslide.
  • The Whig party is formed

    The Whig party is formed
    In 1832 Henry Clay and Daniel Webster formed a new political party known as the Whigs. They were nationalists who wanted a strong federal government, and had a broad interpretation of the constitution.
  • Jackson appoints Taney as the chief justice of the U.S.

    Roger B. Taney was the secretary of treasury and he had managed Jackson's plan. Then in 1835, Jackson appointed him to chief justice.
  • State banks expand and inflate prices with a flood of paper bank notes

    The banks were free of government regulation, so the banks expanded and the face value of bank notes increased from $10 million in 1833 to $149 in 1837. This hurt the common people who Jackson had promised to help.

    William Henry Harrison, a former military officer, ran for president as a part of the Whig party. His vice presdident being John Tyler. Their campaign beacme about more of theatrics than values, such as parades and slogans.
