  • Federalism

    Federalism
    -came about from hating on the Democratic/Republican Party
    -It was during President George Washington's first year
    -They wanted to keep their peace with Great Britain and so they signed the 1794 Jay Treaty
  • Constitutional Convention

    Constitutional Convention
    • Fedaralist are pro-constitution, pro-strong government and Anti-fedaralist are anti-constitution and for a weak government.
    • Fedaralist wanted to build a strong central government bcause they felt that the Articles of Confedaration gave the states too much power and they loosely interpreted the Constitution.
    • John Adams was an unpopular leader for the Fedaralist party.
    • Anti-Fedaralist pursued stronger state governments and wanted to strictly intepret the Constitution.

    1st Amendment
    -Virginia wa last to ratify the bill of righta
    -The 1st amendment includes freedom of speech, press, religion, petition, and assembly.
  • Steamboat

    Steamboat
    -Robert Fulton made the first steam boat and called it the Clermont.
    -He worked on it from 1807 till the day he died because he wanted to build t best steam boat possible.
    -He created the first step to steam locomotive transportation.
  • Abolitionists

    Abolitionists
    -Moved and worked to end slavery
    -Abolitionist ideas became abundant in northern churches
    -this movement of was partial reason of the starting of the Civil War
    - 1830-1870s Abolitionists tried to abolish slavery
    -Elizabeth Cady Stanton is a widely known Abolitionist
  • Manifest Destiny

    Manifest Destiny
    -term used for the attitude prevalent for American expansion
    -was first published by John L. Sullivan in July of 1845
    -Anglo-Saxon Americans' heritage made America fit
    -was destined to expand from one end to the other
    - helped move Native Americans
  • Kansas-Nebraska Act

    Kansas-Nebraska Act
    • the Act allowed states to choose whether slavery would be allowed in their state. -the aftermath of the Kansas- Nebrska act led to the period of violence known as Bleeding Kansas -kansas became a fre state in 1861
  • Dred Scott Case

    Dred Scott Case
    -Dred Scott was a slave who lived in a free state before returning to his home slave state, Missouri
    -He proclaimed that his time in the free state should set him free
    -The court said no of course. That any black, free or slave could not claim US citizenship
    -He wasn't allowed to position either
    -This case made Abolitionists rage and this also made the war happen in just 3 years
  • The Civil War

    The Civil War
    -During the civil war the "Union' or Confederacy was made up of 20 states.
    -During the war confedarate prisoners did not want to be exchanged with the Union rather they wanted to be enlisted in the confedarate army.
    -The union had many advantages including most of the nations wealth being from the North.
  • Emancipation Proclamation

    Emancipation Proclamation
    -"Emancipation Proclamation is arguably one of the top ten most important documents in history and also one of the most misunderstood."
    -Lincoln says in his writing that the 3 billion black slaves in the United States should be granted freedom
    -During his speech he declares that "slaves in areas still in rebellion within 100 days would be free."
    -The 13th Amendment has deleted slavery from America
  • 54th Massachusetts Regiment

    54th Massachusetts Regiment
    -"the volunteer Infantry Regiment was one of the first official black units of the US armed forces."
    -In the Civil War, Lincoln told them that they were fighting to not have integration, instead of fighting to end slavery
    -Governor John A. Andrew who was an abolitionist in Massachusetts, had called for black soldiers to fight I the Civil War
