    Italian Renaissance

    Italian Renaissance
    Also known as the rebirth of Art and Literature. Florence was also known as the birthplace of the Renaissance, was a republic. This period encouraged the world to experiment and observe itself. Many people like Da Vinci focused on trying to define the laws of nature. Like Leonardo, he would create models of flying machines and submarines.

    Lorenzo Medici

    He became head of his family after his father had died. Also a virtual ruler of Florence, he was a Politician, becoming a figure of the Italian Renaissance.Lorenzo had a battle against Pope Sixtus IV with his brother on his side. Lorenzo got out with a wound, but his brother was stabbed to death. He was later excommunicated and the Pope layer an interdict on the city of Florence.

    Leonardo da Vinci

    He was an Italian sculptor, painter, architect, and scientist. Leonardo was recognized as a renaissance genius. He depicted flying machines, Planes. He never went to a school, that's because he was an apprentice to an artist. Later in his life, he would sneak into cementaries to steal bodies, so he could study or examine the human body.

    Copernicus

    Nicolaus developed his own model of a heliocentric planatery system. Later he would publish his work in books. His 2nd book was banned by the Roman Catholic Church after his death. He wasn't actually to propose the heliocentric theory. He was more known because his work and findings were more detailed.

    Michelangelo

    Born in the village of Caprese on the Tuscan region of Italy. He was an apprentice to painter, Domenic Ghir Iandaio, who recognized his art talents. He would then be asked to live in the Medici Family palace. When the Medici Family were banished, he left too to find more opportunities. Known for his sculptures, Statue of David, and his painting, The Sistine Chapel.

    Henry VIII

    Henry was educated in the new learning of the Renaissance. He became prince of Wales in 1503. He had a Papal Dispensation to marry Arthur's widow, Katherine of Aragon. He joined Pope Julius II , King Ferdinand II of Aragon, Holy Roman Emperor, on a campaign against France. He would later in his life, he would be given the title"Defender of the Faith", by the Pope for a treatise against Martin Luther. When he was king , he would struggle to have a boy as his heir. After his death,Mary I took over

    Mary Tudor

    She was the first daughter of Henry VIII and Catherine of Aragón. Known for being the first Queen of England, in 1553. She persecuted so many Protestants that she got the name " Bloody Mary ". She suffered ovarian cancer in 1558. After her death, her half sister, Elizabeth took the throne.

    95 Theses

    95 Theses
    The 95 theses was a list of statements and propositions against the Catholic Church. The list was nailed to the church on October 31,1517. This list would later become the foundation of the Prostestant Reformation. Martin Luther would later be excommunicated by the Pope, for the Catholic Church. The 95 Theses would spread across Europe becuase of the printing press.

    Galileo's Trial
    On this day Galileo was convicted of heresy. He was convicted of this because of his theory that the Earth revolved around the Sun. He was released of custody of the florentine ambassador. His trial was described by Niccolini as " extremely downcast over his punishment ".

    Issac Newton

    Issac was a physicist and a mathematician. As one of the great minds of the Scientific Revolution, he developed the principles of modern physics. Later in his life, he published his own book, Mathematical Principles of Natural Philosophy. The book was said to be one of the most influential books of Science. At 80 years he suffered digestion problems, causing him to black out and never regained consciousness. He died at 84 years old on March 31,1727.
