How a Bill Becomes a Law

  • Introduction.

    The bill gets introduced into the House of Representatives. It is given a number and is then put into the hopper.
  • Committee

    Committee
    The bill is then sent to a committee to be voted on. If eniugh people vote to pass it, it goes to a subocmmittee. But if not enough people vote to pass it the bill dies.
  • Sub-Committee

    Sub-Committee
    The bill passed the committee so it went on to a sub-committee. The sub-committee passed the bill and so now it is put on a calender.
  • Calender

    The bill passed the committee and the sub-committee so now it is put on a calender.
  • Voted

    The bill is voted on by the House of Representatives.
  • Referred to the Senate

    Referred to the Senate
    The bill was voted on by the House of Representatives and they passed it. Now it has been referred to the Senate to reapeat steps 2 through 6.
  • Sent to the President.

    Sent to the President.
    If the bill gets passed by the House of Representatives and the Senate it gets sent to he President of the United States. The President can veto, sign, pocket veto, or do nothing to it.
  • Override

    If the President vetos a bill, the House of Representatives and the Senate can get 2/3 votte to pass then they override the veto, and the bill becomes a law..
