The British Mandate
The British were given a mandate to govern Palestine by the league of nations. Jews were encouraged to move there by the Balfour declaration, and as a result, 238,000 Jews lived in the region by 1933. -
UN proposes partition plan
Since the British had to withdraw from the Palestine region soon, the United Nations proposes a partition plan that there was a Jewish and Arab state united by an economic union. The Arab leaders did not accept the terms. -
