    Ian Hacking was born in Vancouver, British Columbia. He grew to become a brilliant philosopher just like Thomas Kuhn. Ian was well known for bringing a historical aspect to all his teachings. Ian was also well known for his books that were published. Many of his book have been rewritten or edited, so getting an original copy is hard these days. (Cortez) Hacking was very interested in the “natural and human sciences”. He was in a group of prestige members who all were philosophers and professors.

    Ian hacking had released a book called “The Emergence of Probability”. This book was one of his bigger ones, released in 1975 and later edited and re published in 2006. This book was the staple of discussing historic probability. He would take past events that happen in history, create and formula and try to predict the future historic events.     In 1990 Ian hacking had switched his work, from overall natural science to more human based. He was highly influenced by the work of Michael Foucault. Michael Foucault has always been an influence and resource for Ian, ever since 1975 when he wrote “why does languages matter to philosophy”.     Ian Hacking was one of the Balzan Prize winners in 2014. He had been nominated for his fundamental and outstanding contributions to philosophy a history. He was mostly remembered for his re-written rendition of “soul”. A book published about multiple personality and the science of memory. The source for multiple personality was a prime example of the context given form historical event prior to him. (long)
