IDEA Act Historical Timeline

  • In 1975 the Education for All Handicapped Children Act, Public Law 94-142.

    This Act focused on providing education for children with disabilities in a more flexible environment free of charge, where they would no longer learn isolated. Children with disabilities have the opportunity to interact with others in the school. Implement federal mandates in education to identify which resources the student needs to provide a balanced education and the appropriate protection of their rights for them and their families.

    IDEA Act History Timeline

    This is a summary of 4 events that happened in the history of the USA that has shaped the way we provide services for children with disabilities in the actuality. Now children have the opportunity to be treated with empathy and it's mandated to provide an education for them reasonably as they deserved when they once were hidden and isolated from everybody else in school. Society was underestimating their capacities as a human being judging by their physical or cognitive conditions
  • IDEA Act

    The Education for All Handicap Children Act was renamed as IDEA Act.
    This Update only made a few amendments to Public Law 94-142, such as studying more deeply assertive electronic devices and specific descriptions on transitions for students after they graduate from High School.

  • Reauthorized IDEA with Key Amendments

    President Clinton renewed the legal right of the IDEA Act with some modifications which allow all the children to have access to the same curriculum without differentiating by the diagnosis of the child. Children from birth until they turn five years of age will have the same definition of their IEP as “development delay” and learn with the same program of studies.

  • IDEIA

    The latest Public Law in regards to Special Education services renewed the IDEA Act, this time signed by President George W. Bush. In this case, it expanded the provision for infants and toddlers (Birth-2) to receive Early Intervention. Also, Children and youth from 3 to 21 years of age.
