    Benjamin Franklin feared that the German immigration would undermind and overwhelm the English colonial communities. He feared for the lost of the English language and tradtions.
  • Rule of Naturalization

    Rule of Naturalization
    The Constitution of the United States takes effect. Article I section 8 "Congress shall have the power...to establish a uniform rule of naturalization."
  • Liberal Naturalization

    Liberal Naturalization
    This policy offers citizenship to all free white people after two years of residency in the United States.
  • Naturalization Act of 1795

    Naturalization Act of 1795
    Naturalization Act of 1795 extended the period of residency required for citizenship from two years to five years.
  • Alien and Sedition Acts

    Alien and Sedition Acts
    This allowed the president to deport any foreigner deemed threatening, and lengthen the residency requirement for citizenship from five years to fourteen years.

    Ellis island was an inspetion station for millions of immigrants from 1892 until 1954.
  • Angel Island

    Angel Island
    Angel Island was running from 1910 until 1940 it was used for Chinese immigrants, this is where they were detained and interrogated. It was used aa an immigration station in the San Franciso Bay for the west coast.

    Known as the Smith Act, made it illigal for any resident or citizen of the United States of America to teach or advocate the violent over throw of the U.S. government. Also forced non-citizens to register with the U.S. government.

    Also known as the McCarran Walter Act this restricted immigration into the United States.

    This allowed more immigrants from third world countries to enter the United States.

    This act required employers to attest their employees immigration status, also made it illegal to knowing hire unauthorized immigrants.
  • Immigration Act of 1990

    Gave protection status to aliens of designated countries. This also revised and extened the Visa Waiver Pilot Program.
  • The Dream Act

    The Dream Act
    This bill would provide conditional permanent residency to certain undocumented residents of good moral character who graduate from U.S. high schools, arrived in the United States as minors, and lived in the country continuously for at least five years.
  • SB 1070

    SB 1070
    This requires all aliens over the age of 14 in the United States for longer than 30 days to register with the U.S. government, and to have documents in their possession at all times.
