    The East India Company was a trade company that owned most of India. They controlled most trade thru India but eventually got overthrown and had to have Great Britain take over India for them.

    The Monroe Doctrine was a document issued by President Monroe to the world that the America's will be left alone. Ironically America could not back up this claim and had to have Britain help enforce the rule.
  • The Great Trek

    The Great Trek was led by the Boers. This was the expansion into South Africa for search of land.
  • Suez Canal Built

    Suez Canal Built
    The building of the Suez Canal was originally started by the French. They failed to complete the building do to lack of funding. The British took over and this drove them too push for Egypt when Europe was dividing up Africa.
  • David Livingstone found

    David Livingstone found
    David Livingston was found by Henry Stanley in the village of Ujiji. The reason Livingston was in Africa was to check that the ban on the slave trade was being followed. He also was there to map out ways for missionary's to travel into Africa.

    The Boers were Dutch farmers who had settled in South Africa. Word got out that South Africa was rich in precious metals and gems that the rest of Europe wanted. Britain was the biggest opponent and war ensued between the Dutch and Britain. Britain came out on top and took the resources.

    The Roosevelt Corollary was an add on to the Monroe Doctrine. It stated that the U.S would and could act like an international police force for Latin America.
