    The Indian troops returned home expecting the Britsih to fulfill their promise of setting up reforms that will lead to independence. What they actually returned home to was the same second hand treatment. This made radical Indian nationalist commit acts of violence.
  • Rowlatt Acts

    Rowlatt Acts
    These laws pasted by the British restricted the Indian right to protest. The laws stated that any protester could be jailed for 2 years without trail. This infuriated the Indians.
  • Armritsar Massacre

    Armritsar Massacre
    10,000 Hindus and Muslims gathered in Punjab to protest the Rowlatt acts. This alarmed the British to see the two groups unite in such numbers. Many protesters didn't know the British had banned public meetings but the officer incharge thought they were actively protesting it. This led to the British opening fire and killing almost 400 of the protesters,
  • Gandhi's role

    The Indian National Congress employed a strategy of civil disobedince. At the head of it all was Gandhi. Gandhi started a policy of civil disobediance. He also started nonviolent protest which included boycotting and stikes against the British.

    Gandhi along with his followers marched 240 miles to the seacoast to protest the hated salt taxes dictated by the government.

    The British grant the Indians some self government. The British pasted the Government of India act that allowed for some democratic elections and limited local self-government. In the mean time, tension between the Muslims and Hindus rose

    The resistance against the British from the Indian was always there. But when the British started commiting Indian troops to war during World War 2 without the consent of the Indian leaders, the rage and resistance intensified. This marks the beginning of the revolution.

    The conflict between the Muslims and Hindus poured over when the Muslims tried to gain roles in the Indian Government. The only way to solve the conflict; give the Muslims their own country. The country went on to gain it's independence the day before India and be called Pakistan.
