    Car seats at this point in time really didn't exist. Pictured here is a young boy in the back of the car looking out of a window. This child probably didn't have any form of safety seat to sit in for the duration of the car ride.

    Car seats did not look to be very safe back then. Most of them were made with thin metal rails that would strap to the back of the seats in your cars. Many infants would ride in the front seat with their parents, forward facing.

    This car seat was assessed by the group Car Seats for the Littles. They are an organization that helps parents ensure that their car seats are safe and installed correctly.     Car seats at this point had been developed to be a little bit safer than what we've seen from the past. They were made with cushions, and adjusting straps to fit the child. These car seats were only secured with a lap belt, that couldn't be locked prior to a crash.

    Opposed to car seats of the past that had leather covers, car seat began to be designed with plush cloth that doesn't get as hot. These covers can easily be hand washed, or tossed in the washing machine.

    Car seats that are made currently are made with latch connectors. These are safety features that lock the car seat down before a crash happens so the seat is always secure.

    These car seats are equipped with a 5 point harness. The straps connect from each sides of the hip, in between the legs, and from the top of each shoulder. Car seats from the past were only equipped with a four point harness.
