    the advisory effort began when the United States Military Assistance Advisory Group (MAAG) was formed in Saigon. The mission was to supervise the issuance and employment of military equipment to support the French. Advisors were necessary because the US was trying to figure out how to help the French against the Viet Minh forces.

    Ho Chi Minh's Viet Minh forces defeat the French at Dien Bien Phu. This battle took about a month until the French were defeated and surrendered. This signaled the end of French colonial influence in Indochina and it also cleared a way for the division of Vietnam.

    Thich Quang Duc was a Vietnamese Buddhist monk who burned himself to death. He was protesting the persecution of Buddhists by the south Vietnamese. There are pictures of him burning himself which was very impactful. There was a lot of emotion from around the world that the photograph generated.

    Navy commander James Bond Stockdale was flying a sky hawk because he was on a mission going over north Korea, when his plane took fire and hurtled down. Stockdale was then discovered by villagers who beat him and dragged him in the middle of the streets until the have gotten to the final destination. They brought him to the Hoa lo prison.

It also represented a major expansion of US involvement in the Vietnam war.

    U.s president Richard introduced a strategy called Vietnamization that was aimed to the ending of the american involvement of the Vietnam war. He was building up the south Korea military in order to facilitate a gradual withdrawal of U.S. troops.

This event was also the start of transition period of formal reunification of Vietnam under the Socialist Republic. General Văn Tiến Dũng began his final attack on April 29,1975 and it lasted for one day. The bombardment at the Tân Sơn Nhất Airport killed the last two American servicemen named Charles McMahon and Darwin Judge.

    Ho Chi minh was the North Vietnamese political leader and the president of North Vietnam. He joined the Communist party and after that he became the president and would serve for 25 years. He was a symbol of Vietnam's struggle for unification. He died at the age of 79. He basically led the Northern Vietnamese throughout the Vietnam war.
