    Coronado

    Francisco Vazques de Coronado explored the American Southwest in the early 1500s looking for riches. Coronado came across the Wichita in 1541 in the Great Bend area of the Arkansas
  • San Francisco de los Tejas mission

    The survivors of La Salle's colony arrived near the Neches River at a valley settled by the Nabedaches. The settlement was given the name San Francisco de los Tejas
  • Francisco Hidalgo to Isidro Cassos

    Franciscan friar, working among the Hasinai (called Asinai in the text) of eastern Texas, writes to another friar about the religious beliefs of the Hasinai.
  • Mission withdraw

    Fray Francisco Hidalgo opposed withdraw from the San Francisco de los Tejas mission with a plan to bring about a renewal of the missionary effort among the Hasinais in 1716
  • The Chicken War

    June 1719 - French troops attacked San Miguel de Linares de los Adaes Mission.
    They only raided a henhouse (hence the name), but Spain still left East Texas for 2 years.
  • Mexican Independence

    Mexico wins its independence from Spain on September 27th, 1821
  • Old 300

    The last of the "Old 300" settled summer 1824
  • Sour Lake

    The Great Western Oil Company's 1902 gusher discovered at a depth of 683 feet at Sour Lake Oil Fields
  • Brownsville

    July 28, 1906, black soldiers from the 25th U.S. Infantry suffered slurs and discrimination in Brownsville. They were said to have killed many, but denied it.
  • Falls County

    Open letter to citizens of Falls County is written where a petition is signed to prohibit open saloons. Led to equal rights for women.
