The USA began constructing military bases on Wake Island. The Japanese forces bombed wake island to, again, stop the USA from interfering with them invading countries in the Pacific ocean, and Southeast Asia. But Japan did surrender Wake Island after they lost world war 2. -
First jet engine takes flight
Frank Whittle and Hans van Ohain received a patent for the first jet engine in 1930. But they first tested it in 1939. It worked well. -
Germany invades Poland
The German dictator Adolf Hitler decided to invade the country of Poland. This is the event that started world war 2. -

The hit movie 'Pinnocchio' was released by the Walt Disney corporation. This is one of the most infamous movie ever released. -
Pearl harbor bombing
Japan bombed a harbor in Hawaii. This was because the Japanese government didn't want the USA to interfere with their plans to invade a lot of Southeast Asia. -
Battle of the Coral Sea
The USA turned back a Japanese invasion. The Japanese forces tried to establish air bases in the Coral Sea (the sea between Australia and New Caledonia). Although the Japanese kept some of their territory, the USA stopped the invasion. -
Battle of Midway
This was a Naval battle over the Midway islands in the Pacific ocean. It was Japan versus the USA. The USA was victorious in this battle. -
Manhattan project
The USA began to experiment with the first atomic bombs. This was because of the physicist Albert Einstein; He wrote a letter to Franklin Rooselvelt that he should use atomic weapons before the Germans. -

The current president Joe Biden was born on this day. -
Beaches of Normandy stormed
Many forces such as the USA, UK, and Canada stormed five beachheads in Normandy, which is in northern France. -

After Franklin D. Roosevelt died, Harry Truman was inaugurated as president. -
Battle of Berlin
The Soviet forces surrounded the city of Berlin in Germany. The Germans couldn't do much against the Soviets because of the firepower the Soviets had. This made Germany surrender. -

The USA used a nuclear bomb on the Japanese city Hiroshima. -
Nagasaki bombed by USA
Only 3 three days after the Hiroshima bombing, the USA bombed another Japanese city, it was named Nagasaki. These events all happened out of revenge, because of the pearl harbor incident. This ended world war 2 once and for all. -

After world war 2, the population significantly increased in the USA. This lasted all the way into the 1960's. -
