    Congress ratifies the 19th amendment guarantying all American women the right to vote. This amendment was extremely important as it signaled the beginning of women’s integration into society. Now, the new ‘normal’ for an unmarried woman is having a job, and idleness has to be defended.
  • American Professional Footbal League is formed

    American Professional Footbal League is formed
    The American Professional Football League is formed with eleven teams. The league changed its name to the National Football League in 1922, which is now a billion dollar industry. This was important because team sports develop a sense of community and foster many of the important characteristics for success such as teamwork, leadership and hard work.

    Station KDKA made America’s first commercial broadcast. This date was Election Day, and with the power of the radio, citizens could hear the results of the Cox-Harding presidential race before the newspaper the next day. Now, there is the ability to mold/model the ideal manners to the public through radio communication.

    Henry Ford watched as the 15 millionth Model T Ford rolled off the assembly line at the Ford factory in Michigan. The Model T Ford was the first affordable automobile, which was important as it opened travel to the common middle-class American family. The car transformed travel, and acted as a getaway tool from societies daily bustle.

His character has impacted younger generations since and his loving, admirable character has brought together youth of all ages and races.

    Opening of JC Penney store in Delaware
    JC Penney opens its store in Milford, Delaware, “the last state in the Union to have one of their stores.” This opening was important as the “growth of the nationwide chain indicated the prosperity of the decade.” Additionally, the department store became a vision for women of “hope that some day fortune might smile upon them and make them buyers or stylists.”

    Postwar prosperity ends in the Stock Market crash. Stock prices crashed and almost every American experienced a loss. There was a national loss of an estimated $50 billion, which started the worst depression in America’s history. This was important, as it was a test as to how the U.S would rebuild their economy in the coming years. The stock market was forever transformed, as well as society’s feelings towards purchasing stock.
