Overall premise
This book is Chris Crutcher's autobiography, mostly reflecting on his life as an adolescent but also some events as an adult. He shares humorous and poignant stories that portray how he was shaped as an individual. Many events take place in his hometown of Cascade, Idaho with people including his parents, Grandpa Glen, wily friends, and his tormenting brother, John. I chose this book because I read Whale Talk by Chris Crutcher and liked it, so I wanted to read another funny book by him. -
Event 1 -- Crybaby
Chris Crutcher often reflects throughout his book on moments in his childhood that led him to become what he called a bawlbaby (otherwise known as a crybaby today). Many events include his brother, John, tricking him some way or another. One early event in the book is when John wants to take a friend on a truck trip instead of having Chris come. Thinking: This event stood out to me because many kids can relate to feeling out of control of their emotions and treated unjustly.
