Hassan was born
Amir was present when Hassan was born "just one year after [his] mother died giving birth to [him]."(Hosseini 6). This quote is showing that one year after suffering a big loss, a new life was brought into Amir's life. Amir and Hassan were born so close together leading them to be so close to one another. -
The king is overthrown
While the king was away in Italy, "his cousin Daoud Khan had ended the king's fourty-year reign with a bloodless coup. This is the first bit of change to happen in Amir's life. After this, many things would change for Amir ending the sweet life that he once lived. -
Hassan gets his harelip fixed
Baba was "smiling coyly"(Hosseini 44) when he told Hassan he was going to have his harelip corrected. This event was important because it shows Baba's love for Hassan is stornger than people thought. Normally, a master wouldn't spend any money to medically help a servent but Baba did foreshadowing that he is Hassan's father. -
Hassan gets raped by Assef
Amir watched as Hassan got raped, and "in the end, [he] ran."(Hosseini 76). This incident would change amir and Hassan's friendship forever seperating them. Amir would carry the guilt from this incident for the rest of his life. -
Hassan and Ali leave
Amir felt successful but sad when Ali said the he and Hassan "are leaving"(Hosseini 106) because Amir blamed Hassan for stealing his money. This would be the last time Amir ever saw Hassan and would later feel very guilty for what he did. Amir's inner demons caused him to do what he felt he had to by getting rid of Hassan. -

Amir and Baba move to California
Amir and Baba moved to California because "Baba loved the idea of America."(Hosseini 125) This was a move Baba felt he had to make to forget the past and start a new better life for him and Amir. This was so Baba could forget what he once had and mourn his loss. -
Amir graduates High School
Amir graduated from High School "by far the oldest senior tossing his mortarboard on the football field that day."(Hosseini 131). This shows that Amir was able to overcome the fact that he was older and spoke a different language from the other kids to graduate and get his diploma. Amir was able t forget the past and move forward for now. -
Amir marries Soraya
It was in 1984 that amir told Soraya that he "wants us to marry."(Hosseini 165) Amir has put behind his incident with Hassan and has forgotten about his father's disease so he can marry. This shows Amir is moving forward in his life. -
Baba dies
After a party, Baba went to sleep and "never woke up."(Hossieni 173). Baba was the last family Amir had and now he felt so alone. He loved baba more than anything and stuggled deeply without him. -

"After 1986, the Soviet Air Force was also rendered largely useless by advanced Stinger antiaircraft missles. -
Amir writes his first book
Amir "finished [his] first novel"(Hossieni 183) and to his suprise it was published. Amir always dreamed of being a writer and now that he finally has had his dream come true it feels great. He now knows that he can provide for his wife doing something he loves. -
Soviet troops leave Afghanistan
"the last Soviet troops left Afghanistan in February 1989, in what was in effect a unilateral withdrawl." -
Afghan power goes to warlords

Pakistan gives arms to Taliban

Mullah gains followers
By the end of 1994 Mullah Omar had nearly 12,000 followers." -
Taliban take over Afghan

Bin Laden comes to Aghan
"Mr. bin laden who arrived by chartered jet at Jalalabad Airport in May 1996" -
Amir finds Sohrab with Assef
Amir goes to the taliban house where Assef brought in "a boy dressed in a loose, saphire"(Hosseini 279) dress. Amir was so excited to see Sohrab and know he was alive but terrified of Assef. After getting beat up, Amir lost his fear and his guilt. -
Sohrab tries to kill himself
Amir was "still screaming as the ambulence came"(Hosseini 343) after seeing Sohrab covered in blood in the bathroom. Sohrab had tried to kill himself by cutting his wrists with razors, His reason was that he just wanted to be with his family again. -
Rahim calls and tells Amir to go to Afghan
Amir "lowered the phone into the cradle"(Hosseini 190) after Rahim Khan called because he was so shocked. After not hearing from Rahim in years it was suprising to get called ording Amir to go to Pakistan. Amir decided he had to go none the less. -
Amir and Sohrab come to America
Amir and Sohrab arrived in San Francisco "on a warm day in August 2001."(Hosseini 357) Amir, after much work, had finally gotten Sohrab to America. Amir hopes that Sohrab can start over much like Amir did many years ago. -
Bin Laden attacks World Trade Center
"After the attack on the world trade center in New York on Sept. 11, 2001" -
Hamid named chairman
"In December 2001, Hamid Karzai.... was named chairman of an interm government" -
Amir gets Sohrab to smile
Amir felt delighted when he looked at Sohrab and saw "a smile"(Hosseini 370). This was a breakthrough because it was the first time Sohrab had ever smiled. This gave Amir hope for the future. -
