  • Amir won the Kite Tournament

    After a lot of practice and a tough competition, Amir was congradulated by Hassan, when he said, "You won, Amir agha! You won!"(66). Throughout the experience Amir had from his father, he was happy he won and felt he deserved it. Immediately after Amir won, he was congradulated by loyal and proud Hassan.
  • Assef brutally hurts Hassan

    Once Amir won the Kite tournament, Amir ran his kite for him but was cornered in an ally with Assef who immediately used "the heel of his snow boots [to crush] the back of Hassan's neck"(75). Assef always tried to start fights with Hassan and Amir, so at that moment, he didn't care about hurting Hassan as long as he got the kite. Even though Hassan was always there for Amir, Amir was not there for him, which is why Hassan was victimized.
  • Amir getting Hassan and Ali trouble

    After Amir blackmailed Hassan and Ali, he saw them crying and wondered how he "could be capable of causing this kind of pain"(105). Amir thought that making it seem like they stold money would cause them to be upset but not as upset as they were. Amir was surprised by the outcomes of what he did.
  • Ali and Hassan go to America

    When Baba told Ali he was forbidden to leave, Ali said, "you can't forbid be anything... we don't work for you anymore"(107). Ali was trying to make a point that from his wrongdoing, (stealing money) he no longer wanted to wok for Baba. Baba did not want them to leave so he told Ali that he had to stay, which Ali didn't agree to.
  • Soviets invaded

    Afghanistan's govornment was weakened when the "soviet union invaded" in 1979 (NYT 1).
  • Baba and Amir in America

    After Baba and Amir arrived in America, Amir explained what it was like around them, such as how the "neighbors in Freemont were bus drivers, policemen..."(126). Baba and Amir have finally arrived after a long dangerous ride over. They are both relieved and interested in what's around them.
  • Amir likes Soraya

    Amir was explaining how wonderful yelda was and said "after I met Soraya Taheri, every night of the week became a yelda for me"(143). He is starting to develop feeling for this young lady he met and thinks about her often. Amir compares Soraya to yelda which was the starless night tormented overs kept vigil.
  • Amir and Soraya get married

    Once Amir and Soraya were married, they were covered under a veil which was when he "whispered to her for the first time that [he] loved her"(171). Soraya and Amir are finally married after all the things they had to go through. They're bond is very trong beause they have told eachother life changing things that have happened to them, but still love eachother
  • Soviets left Afghanistan

    Finally in February, "the last soviet troops left... [leaving] behind a country that way not only devestated by the war but had become a beacon to Islamic extremists"(NYT 2).
  • Anarcguak Division of Power

    There was such a large disagreement between who would have the power that "the power was anarchically divided among competing warlords and indivigual fiefdoms. But one group would eventually gain control"(NYT 2).
  • Hamid Karzar takes over

    Once Mohammad Shah was taken away from the throne, "Hamid Kazar was named chairman of an interim government that replaced the defeated Taliban"(NYT 3).
  • Baba dies

    After Amir and Soraya's wedding, Baba was feeling more ill than ever, and one night, "Baba never woke up"(173). Baba knew that he would use a lot of money on the wedding, so he didn't do anything for himself medically. Amir knew his father didn't have long to live and it was true, because he died only a month after their wedding.
  • Amir goes back to Pakistan

    Soraya noticed something was wrong with Amir and she was right becuase he admitted that he had "to go back to Pakistan" because "Rahim Kham is very sick"(191). The reason that Amir wasn't acting normal was that he knew he was getting into trouble. At that time period, Pakistan was a very unsafe place and he could get hurt.
  • Amir learns the truth about his family

    Once Rahim Khan started explaining the lie his family kept from him, Amir said, "they had Hassan" but then Rahim replied, "no they didn't"(222). Amir could not believe that his family lied about who they really were and what happened. He also realized that Hassan is his half brother.
  • Sorab saves Amir's life

    After Assef continuously hurt Amir, Amir's only chance of surviving was by having Sorab help him when he 'had his slingshot pointed towards his face" and nailed him in the eye(290). Sorab saved Amir's life by puncturing Assef's eye and making him go have blind. If Sorab wasn't there that would have been the end for Amir, so he was thankful Sorab was there.
  • Sorab wants to live in America

    After Amir asked Sorab to live in America with him and his wife, it took him a while to decide but he finally "nodded"(324). Sorab was scared that he would be taken to an orphanage or not wanted after a period of time. Amir promised him that he would be loved and safe and never have to go back to an orphanage.
  • Sorab tries to commit suicide

    Amir walked into the bathroom to tell Sorab the great news of him being able to go to America but saw that Sorab was in the bath tub, covered in blood and screamed and said, "I was still screaming when the ambulance arrived"(343). Amir was so excited with the news that he payed no attention to what Sorab was doing. Later he found Sorab in the bath tub and was shocked and extremely terrified.
  • Amir stands up for Sorab

    The General and his wife came over and kept rudely calling Sorab the Hazara boy but Amir did not like that and said, "you will never again refer to him as Hazara boy in my presence. He has a name and it is Sorab"(261). Amir did not like how the General was acting superior to Sorab by calling him Hazara boy. Amir feels that him and Sorabare no different because they are related and true family.
  • The 9/11 Attack

    Once the US teamed up with the Northarn Alliance, the "air and ground campain began that drove the Taliban out of major Afghan cities by the end of the year"(NYT 3).
  • 9/11 attack in the book

    Amir was saying what was going on and said, "on tuesday, the Twin Towers came crumbling down and changed the world forever"(362). This is a major real life event that affected many. It was so hurrific especially becuause it changed the world forever.
  • The Karzai Government

    Once Hamid Karzar was elected the new president, "he hoped to secure peace for Afghanistan and win the country international aid"(NYT 3).
  • The Taliban's influences

    Even after being overthrown, the Taliban was still a "guerilla warfare" who tried to "extend its influences in the southern part of Afghanistan"(NYT 3).
  • Deploying troops

    The next step the President was going to take in war was "to deploy 30,000 additional troops.
  • The Presidnt's New Decision

    Once the President removed Gen. McChrystal from uncertain quotes others said about him, he "tapped Gen. Petraeus to lead the war effort"(NYT 4).
  • President's views on prices

    The war had been going on for quite a while, showing that a lot of money was being used on weapons and food, so the President said, "he vowed to start bringing American forces home from Afghanistan"(NYT 4).
