Hassan's Rape "The Kite Runner"
The winter of 1975 in Kabul Afghanistan, Amir witnessed Hassan get raped in an alley by Assef. Amir witnessed Assef kneel "behind Hassan, put his hands on Hassan's hips and lifted his bare buttocks. ...Hassan didn't struggle. Didn't even whimper. He moved his head slightly and I caught a glimpse of his face. Saw the resignation in it. It was a look I had seen before. It was the look of the lamb." Both Hassan and Amir were deeply scared by this incident. -
General Daud is overthrown
General Daud, whom was president of Afghanistan during this point in time, is overthrown and killed in a pro-Soviet coup. "The People's Democratic Party comes to power but is paralysed by violent infighting and faces opposition by US-backed mujahideen groups." Due to the economic conditions of Afghanistan and the generals policies as well as support to militias angered afghans. The end result is his death in April of 1978. -
Mujahideen come together in Pakistan to form alliance against Soviet forces
During this time of war "half of Afghan population now estimated to be displaced by war, with many fleeing to neighbouring Iran or Pakistan" This war began over a treaty which gave Brittan control to intervene in foreign in affairs in Afghanistan. This war broke out shortly after Brittan had perviously invaded Afghan.
