First Vietnamese Attack
The Democratic Republic of Vietnam launch their first attack against the French. This initiates the Vietnam War. Unlike the Korean war, it didn't start with a surprise attack, much more with a long awaited one. -
Surprise Attack
North Koreans pass through the 38th parallel and execute a surprise attack and invades South Korea. This initiates the Korean war. Both wars started with the principal goal being the complete deletion of communism. -
Official American Involvement
The United States is officially involved in the war when US President Harry Truman sends $15 million dollars in military aid to the French in Vietnam. The United States were heavily involved in both wars. -
United Nations Takes Over
The United Nations take over and start supporting South Korea with its goal of demolishing communism in Korea. The United Nations were heavily involved on the Korean war, while on the Vietnam war they were completely opposed to the violence and didn't grant permission for other countries to help out. Despite this, many countries did. -
South Korean 38th Parallel Crossing
The US and South Korean armies cross the 38th parallel for the first time. Both countries were divided after World War II, which means that they both had their own parallels during their wars. -
North Korea Pushes South Again
Chinese troops outnumber the UN, US and South Koreans. They withdrawl from their pursue to the North and are pushed to the South again. Each war was like a game of "tug of war", there was no winning side for there was a lot of fluctuation on who had the upper hand. -
Korean War Ends
Cease-fire, peace treaty is signed between communist North Korea and anti-communist South Korea. American attempts to contain communism on both wars failed. -

Geneva Convention
Vietnam is split into North Vietnam and South Vietnam across the 17th parallel at the conference. Unlike Korea, Vietnam was divided through the 17th parallel, although a cease-fire was signed during both wars. -
"Vietnamization" Announced
"Vietnamization" is first nationally announced on television in a speech. The objective of this was to change the purpose of defeating the communist away from the United States and onto Vietnam soil itself. The Korean war wasn't a part a part of the American population, for it wasn't exposed through the media as much. -
War is Over
United States President Gerald Ford announces that the war at Vietnam is over and the last American troops have left the war field. During the Korean war the US fought and protected South Korea, while during he Vietnam War the US lost to them.
