  • Start of the Haitian Revolution

    It started because white masters terrorized africans. A group of slaves in a French colony rose up against their masters. Then Toussaint L'Ouverture became their leader, he was formerly enslaved so he wasn't familiar with military matters. Beside this he became a skilled general and took control of the entire island. They seized him in and sent him to a prison in the french alps, where he died in April 1803.
  • The End of the Haitian Revolution

    Toussaint's lieutenant, Jean Jacques Dessalines took up the fight for freedom and on January 1, 1804. General Dessalines declared the colony an independent country after they defeated the French.

    In 1810 Priest in a small village of Dolores, Miguel Hidalgo took the first step toward independence by ringing the bells of the village which alerted the people who gathered in the church. He call for a rebellion against the spanish. The day after that 80,000 men marched toward mexico city.

    Because of the lower class of indians and mestizos marching, the Creoles and Spanish feared the loss their land or lives.The Army defeated Hidalgo in 1811. It took another leader to for independence, Jose Maria Morelo. He leade for 4 years before being defeated in 1815 by Agustin De Iturbide. It took mexico until 1820 when Mexican Creoles feared the loss of their privileges. So they came together in support of Mexican Independence. They gained independence in 1821 by Agustin De Iturbide.
