    Shah Pahlavi appoints new prime minister, Muhammad Mossadegh
    Mossadegh plans to nationalize the British-owned Anglo-Iranian Oil Company (Qantara).
  • Mohammad Mosaddeq becomes Prime Minister

    Mosaddeq pledges to return control of oil back to Iran. The previous government. exchanged millions of dollars of foreign aid to Iran for majority control of Iran’s oil reserves.
  • C.I.A. and British intelligence service want to dethrone Mossadegh

    The shah wanted to remove his prime minister and form an alliance with the United States. Mossadegh refused and arrested the deposers.

    To receive cancer treatment, the Shah travels to Egypt, Morocco, the Bahamas, Mexico, New York Hospital and Lackland Air Force Base in the United States, Panama and back to Cairo. The Shah dies in Cairo on June 27, 1980.
