Birth of Leonardo Da Vinci

Born April 15, 1452 Leonardo was born in Vinci, Italy. His father was an attorney and a notary and his mother was a peasant. His parents never got married. Leonardo lived with his father which is how he had access to good opportunities.

Verrocchio’s Workshop

Period: Jan 1, 1466 to Jan 1, 1476

Leonardo was an apprentice to Andrea di Cione who was an artist. This workshop was one of the best in Florence. He started the workshop when he was 14. During the time he was an apprentice he was shown many different skills not only in art.

Da Vinci's Workshop

1477 Da Vinci opens his first workshop. His father helped him open the workshop. Leonardo had already stopped working with Verrocchio. Leonardo helped paint The Baptism of Christ. Leonardo worked by himself for a while. Image Source

Da Vinci moves to Milan

In 1482 Leonardo da Vinci moved to Milan. He was hired by Duke Ludovico Sforza. Leonardo was named the “painter and engineer of the duke”. He stayed in Milan for 17 years. He left Milan when the duke lost his power. image source

Da Vinci's study on Human Anatomy

Leonardo briefly had studied anatomy and physiology while he was an apprentice for Andrea del Verrocchio. Later on, Leonardo was able to dissect human bodies at the Hospital of Santa Maria Nuova. He then dissected human bodies in hospitals in Milan and Rome. Leonardo and Marcantonio della Torre both collaborated in studies and made many detailed drawings. Image source
